Janet Straub

Age:

64

Hometown:

Pittsgrove, NJ

Sport:

Bocce

Janet first started with Special Olympics New Jersey as a parent watching her son play. She started volunteering a few years later from keeping score at softball games to maintaining the books at Bocce and helping at bowling. She moved on to coaching bowling then Bocce. She realized she loved this sport so she continued her volunteering by becoming a Bocce official. Janet then decided she really wanted to be by her son's side and became his Unified partner several years ago.

Special Olympics has inspired her to have a career in Special Education. She has been a paraprofessional for over 20 years. She has been working with kindergarten students the last 12 years.

Janet was named 2019-2020 Educational Services Professional of the year in her school district.

Janet has 3 children and 2 granddaughters. Her family is her pride and joy. Her husband passed away suddenly when she was 8 months pregnant with her daughter. Her kids are my strength and my life.

Watching the NY GIANTS play, mowing the lawn, doing crafts and playing with my granddaughters brings her happiness.

Janet looks forward to this special time of being part of the SONJ USA TEAM.
